February 2019 News Letter

Happy Holidays

From: Ronnie King, Chief Financial Officer

Leadership Changes

As many of you are aware, Wendy Bryan has been our Controller and Operations Manager of our Van Division for several years. In addition, in 2017 she agreed to take over the Leadership role in our Flatbed Division. Effective February 11, we have asked Wendy to take on a new role to help improve the profitability of the Company. In this role, she will analyze various metrics in order to look for ways to maximize revenue and reduce Company costs. This is an important role that should allow us to get our Company to the next level. While she will remain over our Van Division and continue her duties as Controller, Rodney Durham has agreed to take over as Operations Manager of our Flatbed Division. Rodney will report directly to Jeff and he will assume all the duties Wendy previously held over Flatbed.
Please help me congratulate Wendy and Rodney on their new roles.
Be safe!
Ronnie

Shop Talk by Tim Gordon

Maintenance is a cost that all companies must face, budgeting for it every year and expecting the cost to be there. What companies don’t plan for is unnecessary cost that can sometimes make the difference in a company performing well or operating in the RED.

Performing a good pre-trip inspection and paying close attention to your daily activities will help prevent repairs and cost that could be avoided. Below is a list of some of the items we have had to spend money on that could have been avoided:
Fuel outs to include service call and higher fuel cost even if it is only 25 gallons
Dropping a trailer on soft ground and it sinks where we must call a wrecker out
Parking your rig in a muddy area and cannot get out, whether it be for lunch or overnight, and having to call a wrecker
Keeping tractor and trailer on hard surface while driving so as not to get stuck, whether it be turning around, fueling, or parking.
Calling a vendor out to replace broken airlines because you forgot to unhook them when you dropped trailer.
Calling a vendor out due to brakes being locked up but you didn’t realize you hit your brake valve in the tractor a little bit and it has your trailer brakes locking up and smoking and you are not hitting the brake pedal.
It is very important as a driver you keep your head in the game all the time, paying close attention to the details of your equipment. Have a safe day so you can continue to hall your loads.
