How Do You Act At Work

I know that vehicle maintenance is a term in which everyone “cringes” whether it be from our own personal vehicle or a commercial motor vehicle that you are driving. If you are driving a CMV, or you are in a position to observe Fleetwood tractors and trailers on a regular basis, you have a duty to look over these vehicles every day. If something on that equipment is faulty or needs repair it is your responsibility as to notify someone about that issue. In the last 24 months, 239 violations have been issued to Fleetwood vehicles for light violations. As many of you know, vehicle maintenance is one of the CSA Basics that is reviewed by the FMCSA. If you assume that these 239 violations averaged 6 points each, then that totals to 1434 points added to Fleetwood and the driver’s CSA fitness score. Most of these violations could have been prevented just by observing these tractors and trailers each time it pulls into a yard. We are going to put a renewed focus on these simple observations to ensure that these reviews are being done. This should, in turn, reduce overall down time, maintenance costs, lower CSA scores, and reduce undue scrutiny on the road from a DOT officer.
Be safe!

Shop Talk by Tim Gordon

Per the calendar it is supposed to be fall in East Texas and Louisiana, with all the rain we are getting I know everyone is hoping it cools down. There are some maintenance items I want everyone to do and prep themselves and their equipment for the upcoming seasons.
The first item many be a little late but Check your wiper blades as we enter the raining season. The rain around here comes up on us fast and you don’t want a torn or damaged wiper blade when you need it. Be sure your washers are spraying properly at the same time. We also have a lot of fog in the early morning hours that require good wipers, without them you are not going to able to see anything!
I need everyone to start draining your air tanks once a week. I have replaced several air dryer assemblies the past few weeks because they are plugged up. I had to tow a tractor to a shop because it would not build air and release the trailer brakes. If you have never drained your air tanks, stand back because what comes out is not pretty. What comes out of your tanks goes into your air system then passes on to your trailer and pollutes it. In our humid climate your air compressor will cause moisture to collect in your tanks, tank air capacity will decrease while what passes thru your system can damage your braking components. Start a practice of draining your air tanks at least once a week. Every day is idle until you get the system purged of all the bad
Be safe and drive careful
